Raleigh, NC, April 2, 2002 – Web Performance Inc. is proud to announce the release of version 2.4 of the load testing product Web Performance Trainer™. Known to be the price/performance leader in the load testing market, version 2.4 has many new features including improved data replacement, browser auto configuration, and enhanced statistics. Longer descriptions of the new features are given below and in the new manual at http://webperformance.com/support/manual.
Web Performance Trainer™ has the ability to make each simulated user hitting a web site be unique. One of the ways it achieves this is by making each virtual user fill out forms using different data. The capabilities of this data replacement has now been greatly expanded, including support for multiple data columns, “lifespan”, “reusability”, and “shareability”. This covers almost any situation that could arise when giving virtual users dynamic and unique properties.
When Web Performance Trainer™ starts the first time, it will attempt to discover the browsers that are installed on the system. The user will be asked to choose which browser to use for recording Business Cases. For supported browsers, when a recording is initiated, Web Performance Trainer™ will automatically configure the proxy settings, clear the cache and cookies, and then launch the browser. When the user exits Web Performance Trainer™, the proxy’s settings and cookies will be restored. Supported browsers are: Internet Exploder (Windows) and Netscape/Mozilla (Windows and UNIX).
When the port numbers used by Web Performance Trainer™ are in use when Web Performance Trainer™ starts, the configuration can be changed within Web Performance Trainer™ and does not require a restart. Manual editing of the configuration file is no longer required.
When no license key is present – the user will be prompted for the location of the license key. The user no longer needs to ensure the license key is copied into the correct folder or has the correct name.
Web Performance Trainer™ now supports multiple processor hardware under Windows (Linux and Solaris already supported).
A few changes have been made to statistics collected by Web Performance Trainer™. First, the bytes/sec is now calculated _per user_ (for business cases, web pages, and urls). This will allow the user to more easily identify the changes in bandwidth available to each virtual user as the load on the server increases. Second, a new statistic, “bytes”, has been added. The “bytes” statistic will track the total bytes transferred for the selected events completed within each sample period.
Web Performance Trainer 2.4 shipped on April 2, 2002. It is available for purchase through Web Performance sales and authorized resellers. Pricing starts at $1,495 for 100 simultaneous virtual users, with typical deployments between $5,000 and $10,000.
