This release represents months of development focused on security, performance, and reliability improvements. Licenses for existing customers will be updated the week of July 21st.

Easy Page Delineation

As we explain in the article Understanding Web Pages in Modern Web Apps, it can be difficult to figure out the definition of a “web page” in modern apps. With asynchronous calls and single-page architectures the definition of a “page” has never been more confusing. The good news is the new recording dialog makes it easy: just click whenever you feel a customer interaction you want to measure has finished.

Complete OAuth2 and Bearer Token Support

The highlight of this release is full automated OAuth2 and Bearer token authentication support. Modern applications increasingly rely on OAuth2 for security, and WPT 6.8 now handles these authentication flows seamlessly:

• Automatic Token Detection: The ASM (Automatic State Management) system now automatically detects and correlates OAuth2 Bearer tokens from API responses

• Universal HTTP Method Support: Bearer tokens work correctly with GET, POST, and all other HTTP methods

• Comprehensive OAuth2 Detectors: Pre-configured detectors for access tokens, JWT tokens, and refresh tokens

This means you can now test applications using modern OAuth2 authentication without manual token management or complex scripting.

Enhanced Performance and Scalability

Version 6.8 delivers significant performance improvements:

• Multi-Core ASM Processing: The ASM system now automatically utilizes all available CPU cores, dramatically speeding up analysis of complex applications. Testing shows that modern multi-core computers will see speed increases in the 4-7X range.

• Optimized Thread Management: Improved thread allocation ensures better resource utilization during load testing

• Enhanced Cookie Handling: Fixed cookie correlation issues that could affect session management in complex scenarios

Improved HTTPS and Proxy Support

We’ve strengthened support for secure connections and corporate environments:

• Enhanced HTTPS Proxy Recording: Fixed critical issues with recording through HTTPS proxies while maintaining security

• Improved SSL/TLS Handling: Better compatibility with modern TLS configurations

• Windows Proxy Integration: Restored and improved Windows proxy settings integration for seamless corporate network recording

Build and Deployment Improvements

Significant infrastructure enhancements make installation and deployment more reliable:

• Windows Installer Fixes: Resolved encoding issues and build problems affecting Windows installations

• Cross-Platform Build System: Improved build reliability across Windows, macOS, and Linux

• Cloud Integration: Enhanced AWS cloud engine validation and VPC support

Platform and Compatibility Updates

• Windows 11 Compatibility: Full support for Windows 11 including registry handling and system integration

• Internet Explorer Removal: Cleaned up legacy IE support code for better security and performance

• Java 8 Modernization: Updated deprecated API calls for better compatibility and future-proofing

• macOS Sequoia Support: Enhanced browser discovery and launch capabilities on the latest macOS (not included in this release)

Developer Experience Enhancements

• Improved Recording Interface: Enhanced recording progress dialog with better visual feedback

• Better Browser Detection: More reliable browser discovery across all supported platforms

• Comprehensive Documentation: Extensive documentation for OAuth2 implementation and configuration

• Enhanced Testing Framework: Improved unit and integration test reliability

Getting Started with 6.8

The new OAuth2 features work automatically with default configurations for most applications.
