These instructions apply to Web Performance Load Tester 6.6 and up. For Load Tester 6.5 and earlier, see <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/2015\/08\/generating-multiple-regions-tester\/\">Generating Load from Multiple Countries &#8211; Load Tester 6.5<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why Load Test From Multiple Regions?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Generating load from different regions enables more realistic load tests. Rather than using just local datacenters, tests can simulate traffic from all over the world rather than just local datacenters.<\/p>\n<p>This feature also allows testing of specific issues. Some users, for example, may expect uneven distribution of traffic from various countries. Others may want to test how application performance varies by region.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Configuring a Cloud Account<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To add and configure a new cloud account:<\/p>\n<p>1. Open a recording.<\/p>\n<p>2. At the top of the navigator panel, select &#8220;New&#8221; -&gt; &#8220;Load Configuration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Adding-a-Cloud-Account-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5457\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Adding-a-Cloud-Account-1.jpg\" alt=\"Adding a Cloud Account - 1\" width=\"189\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3. In the &#8220;New Load Configuration&#8221; pane, click the &#8220;Edit&#8230;&#8221; link that corresponds with the number of configured load engines.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5589 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Adding-a-Cloud-Account-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"111\" \/><\/p>\n<p>4. In the &#8220;Configure Load Engine&#8221; menu, select the &#8220;Configure Cloud Accounts&#8221; option<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Adding-a-Cloud-Account-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"89\" \/><\/p>\n<p>then, in the &#8220;Cloud Accounts&#8221; menu, click &#8220;Add.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5591 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Adding-a-Cloud-Account-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"436\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p>5. Enter a) an account name, b) your Access Key, c) Secret Access Key, \u00a0and d) select a region, then\u00a0click &#8220;OK&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5630 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Adding-Cloud-Accounts-3-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"524\" height=\"457\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You may also add a security key. Security keys allow users to create multiple engines under one Amazon account. The engine view will only show engines created under this security key.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>6. To add another region, select an existing entry and click &#8220;Duplicate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Adding-Cloud-Accounts-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5429\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Adding-Cloud-Accounts-4.jpg\" alt=\"Adding Cloud Accounts - 4\" width=\"600\" height=\"197\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Cloud Account&#8221; menu will appear, populated with the previously entered account information. Change the name and region to distinguish new entries.<\/p>\n<p>7. After adding cloud accounts, change the number of load engines you want to use by editing the &#8220;Total Engines&#8221; field, then save your configuration<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5593\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Adding-a-Cloud-Account-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Change\u00a0cloud engine distribution from the &#8220;Configure Load Engine Menu&#8221; by editing the numbers in the &#8220;Engines&#8221; column.\u00a0You may also view information about or add more cloud engines by clicking on the\u00a0&#8220;Engines&#8221; tab located in the inspection\u00a0pane in the lower\u00a0half\u00a0of the Load Tester application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>8. Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Start-Icon.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5466\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Start-Icon.png\" alt=\"Start Icon\" width=\"35\" height=\"39\" \/><\/a>\u00a0to run\u00a0a test using the new load configuration.\u00a0A popup may appear confirming the launch of additional cloud engines.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>NOTE<\/em>: Startup procedures may take several minutes, and tests will run for the preset duration or until stopped. <\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Stopping a Load Test<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Users have several options for terminating instances:<\/p>\n<p>1. At the end of a test, Load Tester will generate pop-up will appear prompting the user to terminate cloud engines.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Terminating-Instances-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5475\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Terminating-Instances-1.jpg\" alt=\"Terminating Instances - 1\" width=\"526\" height=\"283\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click &#8220;Yes&#8221; to terminate any engines still running.<\/p>\n<p>2. The &#8220;Cloud Accounts&#8221; menu contains an automatic idle time termination option.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Terminating-Instances-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5476\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Terminating-Instances-2.jpg\" alt=\"Terminating Instances - 2\" width=\"404\" height=\"73\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This feature will terminate any instances that have idled for a set period of time. For example, if a user runs a ten-engine test, then runs a two-engine test, Load Tester will automatically terminate the remaining eight engines after the set timeout period.<\/p>\n<p>3. To terminate cloud engines at any time, except when running a Load Test, select the &#8220;Engines&#8221; tab in the inspection pane located in the lower half of the Web Performance application.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Engines-Tab.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5479\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Engines-Tab.jpg\" alt=\"Engines Tab\" width=\"368\" height=\"31\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>4. Select the instance you would like to terminate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Terminating-Instances-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5477\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Terminating-Instances-3.jpg\" alt=\"Terminating Instances - 3\" width=\"312\" height=\"76\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>5. Then, click &#8220;Remove.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Terminating-Instances-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5478\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webperformance.com\/load-testing-tools\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Terminating-Instances-4.jpg\" alt=\"Terminating Instances - 4\" width=\"322\" height=\"60\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, when closing the application, you will receive a reminder popup if you have any instances still running.<\/p>\n<h3>When to Terminate Instances<\/h3>\n<p>Amazon rounds instance charges up to the hour. For example, If you configure a test to start one engine for 10 minutes and stop it, then repeats this process two more times for additional tests, Amazon will bill 3 instance hours.<\/p>\n<p>To prevent unnecessary charges, consider how many tests you plan to run before terminating instances.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you plan to run only one test, terminate all instances upon test completion.<\/p>\n<p>If you plan to run several tests back-to-back, it&#8217;s beneficial to keep engines running until completing the final test of the day.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Future Updates<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Cloud load may only be generated from regions containing Amazon datacenters.
